Clear skies, clear thoughts.
There’s defiantly something good about getting high. High up a mountain I mean! This the view I saw skiing over the border from Italy to France last week.
After a month of wind, rain and yet more flooding in Cumbria, this writers life was boosted with a week away and some sunny skies.
A dull January and wild February has made finding time at the desk difficult. With animals to look after, poor weather piles on the work load and writing takes a back step.
But it’s true that a change is as good as a rest. Skiing was not restful but coming home my goals and the way I will reach are much clearer.
When I left, “Act Two”of my book was a messy muddle in the middle. Editing this, I felt, would be like fighting through overgrown woodland in the dark, each step entangling me even more.
But a week away has helped me see a path through the confusion. Philip Pullman, in his 2017 book on writing, “Daemon Voices,” talks at length about keeping to the path of the story. He cautions getting lost in the forest, taking jaunts down paths leading only to confusion and boredom for the reader.
I can see my path clearly. Bring it on, Act Two!
